Phoenixville Area High School is pleased to announce that the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (NISCA) has recognized the Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving teams for their work in the classroom. The Phantoms boys’ team earned the highest GPA in the state of Pennsylvania (3.838), while the girls’ team (3.858) ranked second in PA.

This is a very proud moment for the Phoenixville Area High School Boys and Girls Swimming & Diving teams,” PAHS Principal, Dr. Craig Parkinson, on the teams’ achievements. Under the leadership of Mr. Dan Weinstein, the program has grown leaps and bounds. Mr. Weinstein has built a complete program that truly focuses on the individual growth of our student-athletes. This award is one of the greatest honors to receive as it supports the fact that our students are not only excellent athletes, but they are individuals who understand the importance of solid education.

Both the boys and girls teams have been named NISCA/SwimOutlet.com Scholar Team Award recipients. The NISCA Scholar Team Award recognizes teams achieving high academic standards. The award is  based on the average cumulative GPA of an entire varsity team (single gender) of 12 or more athletes. PAHS has earned gold level distinction (GPA 3.750 - 4.000).

The goal of the Scholar Team Award is to recognize academic success in the classroom for entire swimming, diving, and water polo teams, as well as athletic success in the pool. This award marks the second consecutive season that the PAHS boys and girls teams have been recognized.          The complete list of award winners can be found at https://www.niscaonline.org/aalists/2017/scholarteam2017.html.

Swimmers tend to be highly disciplined and goal oriented individuals, which are positive attributes that you might find in really good students as well,” stated PAHS Head Swimming & Diving Coach Dan Weinstein. Ive been lucky enough to have most of the swimmers on my team in my math classes too, so I get to appreciate just how talented they really are. I couldn’t be more proud of our team and what they have been able to accomplish.

Phoenixville Area High School will begin the 2017-2018 campaign on December 9 at the Upper Merion Relay Carnival. For the complete schedule or more information about the Swimming & Diving program, please visit www.PhoenixvilleAthletics.com.
