Career Study

Class of 2019 Career Study Programal
The PAHS Career Study Program is an optional program for senior students who are in good academic standing. The program provides an opportunity for students to explore a potential career path and enjoy a workplace experience. Students who participate in this program will leave school for the last three (3) weeks prior to graduation in order to participate in a program of observation or hands-on experience guided by a community sponsor. No credit or grade is earned and this is an unpaid experience.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must be passing ALL classes and be on track to graduate at the end of the 3rd marking period (March 22, 2019)
  • Students must have satisfactory attendance. Students can not have more than 15 days absent during senior year as of the end of the 3rd marking period, which is March 22, 2019. (School functions do not count towards the 15 limit.)
  • Students must not have any serious discipline problems.

Site Placement & Program Requirements

  • Students are to obtain their own career study placements
    • An online database will be available early December for any student who may need some ideas/suggestions of places to contact.
  • Families may not sponsor their own child.
  • Students can not complete the career study program at his/her place of employment.
  • Students can not complete the placement at PAHS.
  • Students must provide their own transportation to their site placements. PAHS will not provide transportation.
  • The career study program will take place Monday, May 13th- Friday, May 31st
  • Students must complete 30 hours/week at the career placement.
  • Final exams for students participating in the career study program will be May 7th- May 10th.
  • Those students taking an AP exam during the 1st week of the program are expected to attend those classes unless the teacher approves for you not to attend. (Less placement hours the first week because of testing.)
  • Students will be required to attend a mandatory Career Study Program Conclusion Meeting on June 3th. (Time will be determined later.)
    • Students must submit a verification time log during this time and will discuss their experience in peer groups.


  • October 10th  Career Study Informational Session
  • January 14th  applications available
  • March 22nd  applications due with all required information and signatures
  • Week of April 8th  placement approval notifications will be sent to students
  • Final Exams: May 7th- May 10th
  • May 14th- May 31st  career study placement
  • June 3th  mandatory conclusion meeting (verification logs due and peer sharing)
