Phoenixville Area High School students will get to experience health science careers up close and personal thanks to program from Johnson & Johnson. The company will host the Bridge to Employment Health Care Rotations program at Montgomery County Community College West Campus South Hall, Health Careers Suite 101 College Drive, Pottstown, Thursday, Feb. 9, from 9:30 -11:30 a.m.

About 40 Phoenixville students will be divided into four groups of nine or 10 students each to go through 20-minute, highly interactive rotations through surgical technology, radiography and medical assisting to learn more about health sciences careers through hands-on activities which include:
• Using their smart phones or wireless devices, students will use Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform, to learn about radiography.
• Students will do an instrument scramble as part of the surgical technology rotation, learning about instruments that may be used in surgery and then trying to identify the correct instrument visually.
• Students will participate in an exercise on pulse points and the significance of monitoring the pedal pulse in diabetics as part of the medical assisting rotation.
This is the first year of a three-year program managed through a partnership between Montgomery County Community College, Phoenixville Area High School and Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Care Companies. The Johnson & Johnson Bridge to Employment program encourages high school students to pursue challenging careers in health care. The BTE program, managed globally by FHI 360, is in its 25th year and draws on a collaborative effort between schools, employers, parents and community groups to provide a diverse population of students with academic learning and real-life experiences.
