Paul Volponi, a young adult author, paid a visit to our English 9 CP and Read 180 students on Tuesday November 1st. They read many of his books in advance and participated in some activities in their classrooms in preparation for this visit. During the visit the students were treated to an interactive presentation that encouraged them to read and write. The author related his personal reluctance to read as a high school student. He went on to become an English teacher and taught incarcerated teens on Rikers Island in New York for six years. At Rikers Island he was inspired to begin his writing career through his interaction with the teens. Many of his stories are based on true events that he has encountered in his life.
